Let’s Talk… Oats! – My Favourite Overnight Oats Recipe

The first time I had cold overnight oats, I was rather confused as it tasted very much like a pudding dessert. When I started experimenting with the different toppings and layering, I was so exhilarated and happy because I can finally eat desserts without feeling guilty anymore! 😀

Overnight oats is basically a no-cook method of making oatmeal. It involves soaking of the oats in milk or yogurt to be left to rest in the fridge. You can keep them in an airtight container, a jar, or even a bowl. The texture becomes much more creamier and denser than cooked oatmeal. It is also much tastier in my opinion!

4 Easy Steps to Make Overnight Oats

  1. Fill a bowl or jar with a serving of old fashioned rolled oats.
  2. Pour the bowl or jar with any milk, just enough to cover the oats.
  3. Add all your favourite toppings – from chocolate sauce, to nuts, berries, fruits, or peanut butter… anything you want!
  4. Keep in the fridge overnight and enjoy! 🙂

Is it safe to eat overnight oats?

There is a controversy on whether it is safe to be eating raw oats. Nevertheless, overnight oats have actually been found to be perfectly safe. In fact, they are safe enough to even consume every morning if you wish! You can refrigerate for up to 2 days, 5 days if covered & stored in an airtight container.

Just as with any raw food, some may feel that uncooked oats may give them digestive issues, such as bloating. Overnight oats are not unsafe unless someone has certain medical conditions that affects their ability to digest.
