1-Two-3+ Cream Cheese Perfectionist
Cream cheese frosting is always second to any other buttercream frosting because it’s much creamier and it may be difficult to work with. Especially if you are from a warm weather country, the cream cheese becomes so soft that piping it may be really difficult. Even so, there are a few reasons why I’d still choose a cream cheese frosting over a buttercream frosting any day: I can reduce the sugar and thus the sweetness because it already has a great tangy flavour It makes me feel good knowing that I’ve halved my calorie and fat intake 🙂 Now, I don’t really like the word Perfectionist but I can’t quite…

Matcha Brownies
In preparation for visiting the best place on Earth (you guessed it – Japan), I am warming up my taste buds by exposing them to an overdose of matcha in the hope that I graduate into a Matcha Snob after my trip in 3 weeks. Fellow acquaintances would refer to me as Sensei Sue. NO, it will be SenSue. (Wait, this isn’t my first time revealing my name right? Did I just blow my mysterious cover? LOL #fail #Ican’tbegossipgirl) To be honest, besides the obvious reason that Matcha = Love, I am also trying to finish up the remaining powder in my cabinet. Matcha is so expensive because its marginal…

BEST Banana Cake EVER – JB Hiap Joo Bakery
I LOVE Banana cake. Specifically, cold banana cake. I know it sounds a little peculiar, but try chilling a banana cake in the refrigerator and have it a few hours later. Oh, especially those swiss roll cakes with a gentle layer of whipped cream – SO DAMN GOOD. Celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, Hiap Joo bakery is one of the oldest bakeries in Johor Bahru (i.e. Southern tip of Malaysia) which opened in 1919. This family owned business is well known for their traditional and authentic wood fire baking techniques. Usually packed with several parallel queues outside the store, people travel to the busier part of town just to…

Quaker Golden Syrup Oatmeal Cookies
In continuation to the Oats Series, today I am sharing a new recipe to make these scrumptious looking Oatmeal Cookies! 🙂 Unlike any other oatmeal cookie recipes, this recipe specifically requires the Quaker’s Golden Syrup instant oatmeal sachets. These instant oats are pre-flavoured with sweet golden syrup. Futhermore, they give a lovely honey-like smell and flavour – it is my all-time favourite instant oatmeal among all flavours. Read more: 7 AMAZING Benefits of Oats Difference between steel-cut oats, rolled oats and instant oats Steel-cut oats, also known as Scottish / Irish oats, are processed differently to rolled oats. The whole-grain oats are cut into pieces, hence giving them the crunchiest…

Carrot Cupcakes w Cream Cheese Frosting
The Duchess has been a little quiet lately from family visits, work trips, Easter holidays, birthday celebrations and the first ever sunny weekend here in the UK – staying at home was not an option! I know I’ve slackened off as the past month has been pretty busy and too disruptive to my normal schedule. But I’m back, and I’ve got pretty exciting news! First of all, I’ve updated Casa du Duchess’ About page. It took me awhile to realise that I have not officially introduced the (real) Duchess to you guys. To your not-so-surprising surprise, no, I am not referring to myself when I mention the Duchess. And yes,…

Lemon Yogurt Cake
To be honest, I can be quite a lazy person sometimes. I’d find any excuse to procrastinate, cause that is just who I am – a person needy for “no-quality me time”, which requires doing absolutely nothing. Last Sunday, I was feeling super meh as I was desperate for that “me time” and had no intentions to prepare for this week’s post. I reckoned that since my father was visiting from Malaysia, it was an excuse for me to skip doing my “homework”. I then entered into a dilemma because I realised that I already bought all the ingredients of a lemon yogurt cake, and if I didn’t bake anything…
