About
Welcome! Simply known as S, I am a part-time visionary with random peaks of inspiration, full-time in financial services (since all bankers are bakers). I have Asian roots and am currently based in London. Call it a hobby, I am simply passionate and in love with food. I hope to share and exchange culinary experiences / recipes with you through this blog.
Early Years
It all started off with that cookie conundrum. I’m sure everyone who cooks has or will eventually face a pickle, not just physically but metaphorically. I spent a lot of time debugging EVERYTHING, chatting on forums and researching on the Science of Food. So I wanted to create an easily accessible online logbook, i.e. a blog, to record all my findings. Therefore, everything you find on this webpage is 100% genuine as it also serves as my personal food diary.
Personal Life
As a Malaysian, it is inevitable for me to have a strong affection and appreciation towards food. Living alone in the UK, I had to pick up culinary skills very quickly to find that familiar taste of home. Besides, it’s also the best way to stay frugal. I find that my confidence in cooking / baking is continuously boosted from all the encouragement and generous compliments I’ve received. I must be doing something right if people keep coming back for more! 🙂 Of course, it definitely helps to always stay curious and be bold with experimenting. I’m talking, curry biscuits or pesto porridge!
I did my Actuarial Science degree and started working in the finance industry here in London – every Asian parents’ dream come true. Honestly, it’s not bad at all but I also want to nurture and give attention to other skills. Something more creative, something out of the corporate world, and definitely something delicious. 😀
Influences
I have a cat at home, her name is Duchess. She has mainly white fur with brown patches, a little pink nose and dark round eyes since my flat usually lacks sunlight. She is super adorable, but not very friendly. Her proud character is certainly befitting of her name. When she’s a little more playful, then she’s Duchie or Duchie-Poo! When she gets hyperactive or scratches my door in the middle of the night, then she’s just D for Devil. 😛
My boyfriend and I are food enthusiasts. We did a couple of supper club dinners for our friends and family in the past and would call our kitchen “Casa du Duchess”, which is Spanish for The Home of Duchess.
